Raleigh, NC (October 30, 2017) -Peter Millar joins the nationwide Fight for Literacy by announcing a partnership with Coaching for Literacy (CFL).
Currently, 64% of American 4th graders are reading below grade-level (Source: National Assessment of Educational Progress). Statistics show literacy is a crucial skill for life success, so Peter Millar is donating a percentage of every online sale in November to create brighter futures for kids nationwide through its partnership with Coaching for Literacy.
“Peter Millar is committed to supporting the millions of young students nationwide struggling with illiteracy,” said Millie Graham, Chief Marketing Officer at Peter Millar. “This partnership with Coaching for Literacy gives us the opportunity to generate critical awareness about the issue of illiteracy while providing assistance to effective literacy programs throughout major cities in America.”
As a part of its November campaign, Peter Millar has pledged a minimum donation of $25,000. Funds raised will support the work of Coaching for Literacy and five local literacy program partners:
Readers2Leaders (Dallas, Texas)
Book’em (Nashville, Tennessee)
PS328 (New York City, New York)
Book Harvest (Durham, North Carolina)
Get Georgia Reading Campaign (Atlanta, Georgia)
These literacy programs provide crucial literacy support to children third grade and below in one of three ways: new books and materials, assisted reading programs, or summer intervention reading camps.
“In America, two thirds of students who cannot read proficiently by the end of the 4th grade are projected to end up on welfare or in jail,” said Melissa Spradlin, Executive Director of Book’em in Nashville, Tennessee. “When amazing companies like Peter Millar commit to help change these grim statistics, lives change. We are so incredibly grateful for Peter Millar’s involvement in the fight for literacy.”
Coaching for Literacy believes that literacy is a fundamental right of every child, yet millions of children struggle to read. CFL leverages the power of sports to raise awareness about the issue of illiteracy in America as well as generates financial support for effective literacy programs nationwide.
